Versant Power’s President, John Flynn, expressed his hope to restore electricity for 90% of the customers who lost power due to the storm by Thursday.
On Wednesday, Flynn described the damage as unparalleled, even in his four decades of experience in the industry. Thousands of people in Greater Bangor and Eastern Maine remained without power on Thursday, following a powerful rain and windstorm that struck on Monday. At its peak, Versant Power reported that 97,000 customers were without electricity. By 6 p.m. on Wednesday, 26,000 customers were still in the dark.
Flynn disclosed that they had deployed a considerable workforce, with 205 line crews, 50 tree crews, and 35 digger trucks—almost 300 crews in total—working on storm recovery, surpassing anything the company had previously seen in its history.
To aid in power restoration, crews from New England and New York have joined efforts in Maine, and Flynn remains hopeful that the majority of customers will see their power restored soon, aiming for a 90% restoration by the end of the day or possibly by the following day.
Flynn expressed his satisfaction with their storm response, highlighting their readiness despite the unprecedented extent of damage. Versant Power intends to maintain continuous efforts to restore power and has shared a list of roads they aim to have restored by the end of Wednesday.
Flynn acknowledged that in certain cases, such as areas where individual lines were torn from homes or remote locations like camps in Northern Maine, power restoration might extend into the weekend. As the holidays approach, he and his teams are working tirelessly to bring light back to the affected areas. Flynn noted that dealing with a Christmas storm for the second year in a row added pressure, but they were determined to assist people, whether it’s Christmas or any other time.
