The Witches Get A New Coach!

The Brewer Witches are keeping things familiar for the upcoming spring outdoor track season by appointing experienced coach Dan Juilli. A former student of Brewer High School, Juilli has been the head coach for the indoor track and field team at the school for 11 seasons. His leadership led the Witches’ girls’ team to consecutive state championships in 2019 and 2020.

Juilli is taking over from his former coach, Glendon Rand, continuing a Brewer High School tradition where alumni return to serve as coaches. Rand, a former distance runner at Brewer in the late 1970s, ran cross country under Bill Lopotro and track under Dave Jeffrey. After completing his teaching certificate at UMaine and captaining the cross country team there, Rand began coaching and teaching biology at Brewer in 1984. Like Juilli, he eventually became the head outdoor track coach at Brewer and also served as the head cross country coach from 1994.

Juilli has been an assistant outdoor track coach at Brewer since 2007, graduating from Brewer in 2006. Rand praised Juilli’s coaching abilities, especially in technical events like the pole vault and triple jump, where many conference and state championships were secured.

Brewer has a strong track record in indoor track, winning multiple state championships. Coach Juilli’s appointment ensures continuity for a track program with over a century of history at Brewer. Brewer Athletic Director Dave Utterback noted Juilli’s positive impact on athletes’ development from youth to graduation.
