Shocking Vandalism at Congressman’s Office Sparks International Debate

The office of U.S. Rep. Jared Golden in Bangor was recently vandalized with red spray paint, carrying a message for a ceasefire.

Someone spray-painted the word “Ceasefire now inshallah” on the office window. This message likely calls for peace between Israel and Palestine, where thousands have lost their lives in the conflict, according to the Associated Press. Around 24,000 people in Gaza and about 1,200 in Israel have died.

The graffiti concludes with “inshallah,” which is an Arabic phrase meaning “God willing.”

The Bangor police are aware of the graffiti at 6 State St., but it’s unclear if they are actively investigating the incident.

Jared Golden expressed his steadfast support for Israel in its conflict with the militant group Hamas. He stated that he will continue to support Israel until all hostages are returned, and Hamas’s military capabilities are fully dismantled, preventing them from launching any more terrorist attacks against Israel and its allies.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine started after a surprise attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7th. This conflict has left most of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents displaced, with the Israeli military controlling most of northern Gaza, as reported by the AP.

In November, seven protesters were arrested in Golden’s office for demanding a ceasefire. However, the charges against them were later dropped.
