Former Boston Celtics player and NBA champion, Brian Scalabrine, attended a thrilling basketball showdown between Cooper Flagg of Montverde Academy (Florida) and AJ Dybantsa of Prolific Prep (California). Flagg, hailing from Maine and committed to Duke, is the top-rated recruit in the US, while Dybantsa, from Brockton, is the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2025.
Montverde Academy was ranked No. 1 in high school boys’ basketball, facing off against No. 7-ranked Prolific Prep.
Scalabrine marveled at the elite level of play and the significance of such competition in preparing young talents for the national stage, college, or even the NBA. He expressed enthusiasm about the future prospects of these exceptional players.
Flagg’s performance included 15 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks, leading Montverde to a 76-71 victory over Prolific Prep. Scalabrine had the opportunity to work out with Flagg over the years, and Flagg valued the experience of training with high-level players.
Dybantsa, on the other hand, stood out with 21 points, five rebounds, and four assists in Sunday’s game. Born in Brockton, Dybantsa reclassified to the class of 2025 and transferred to Prolific Prep, solidifying his status as the top prospect in his class, according to ESPN.
Scalabrine, who followed Dybantsa’s games closely, noted his remarkable improvement and commended players for taking steps toward achieving their dreams.
