Man Gets Killed By Old Town Blaze

A 71-year-old man passed away after getting hurt in a fire that tore through an apartment building in Old Town on Sunday morning. Firefighters rushed to the scene at the multi-unit building and took Banton Foster to a nearby hospital, where he later lost his life, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Thankfully, one resident from another apartment managed to escape the fire, Moss added. The fire was reported at 5:11 a.m. on Sunday, as stated by Lt. Nic Davis of Old Town Fire Rescue. Further inquiries about the fire’s cause are being handled by Maine’s fire marshal’s office. Moss mentioned that the apartment building on Stillwater Avenue, located between Michael Street and Stillwater River, had working smoke detectors. Firefighters from Old Town, Orono, Milford, Veazie, and Bradley all joined forces to battle the blaze.
