Maine Faces Lung Cancer Rates Rising!

Maine still faces a significant problem with lung cancer, ranking fourth in the nation, as reported by the American Lung Association. Lance Boucher from the Association notes two main reasons for this.

“Many adults in Maine use tobacco more than the national average,” he states. “Also, there’s a higher risk of radon exposure in Maine, with more homes having levels that need mitigation.”

Boucher recommends that homeowners check for radon regularly, using test kits available at hardware stores. He highlights the QuitLink program in Maine, a leading initiative supporting those who want to quit tobacco. Additionally, Boucher encourages eligible individuals, especially those aged 50 to 80 with a significant history of tobacco use, to undergo lung cancer screening.
