Computer Attack Affects Hermon School Department

In November, the Hermon School Department had a problem with computer attacks called ransomware. They found out about it on November 5th. The school uses a company called DNS Albany to help with computer stuff, and they quickly fixed the issue.

The attack was mostly on a program called PowerSchool that helps schools with software and cloud services. The school thinks other schools might have had similar problems.

The good news is that the attack didn’t seem to get much information. They believe it only got some basic details like names and addresses, but they’re checking everything to be sure. A special expert is looking at all the information, and a law firm will tell the school what they need to do next.

The school didn’t pay any money to the people who did the attack, and they didn’t even talk to them. The school took some steps to stop the attack, like turning off their servers to keep it from spreading.

The computer attack happened because of a problem with a program called PowerSchool, and they were already planning to switch to a safer version. The attack didn’t fully work because the other servers were turned off.

During the meeting, they also hired a new person to help with computer things. Some people were worried that the new person might not have enough experience, but others voted to hire them.

People from the community also spoke at the meeting. They talked about concerns with hiring the new computer person, the state of technology in the school, and not getting enough information about the computer attack.
