Exciting Victory! UMaine Men’s Basketball Triumphs in Boston, Equals 18-Year Record

Big Win for UMaine Basketball in Boston! The University of Maine men’s basketball team played a fantastic game on the road, beating Boston University 74-65. This victory is special because it brings UMaine’s record to 7-4, a feat they haven’t achieved since 2004-05.

The head coach, Chris Markwood, who used to play for UMaine in 2004, must be thrilled with this full-circle moment. When the game got tight with UMaine leading 58-57 and five minutes left, key players Peter Filipovity and Kellen Tynes stepped up. They scored the final 16 points for UMaine, securing the win against a tough BU team.

During the first half, UMaine took the lead with an impressive 18-3 run in just eight minutes. Although BU fought back in the second half, erasing an 11-point UMaine lead, the Black Bears held their ground.

BU had a strong shooting night with 46.2 percent, but UMaine’s defense stood tall, preventing a single field goal in the last 4:14 of play. The Black Bears showcased an excellent defensive game, making nine steals and causing 16 turnovers.

UMaine’s defense has been solid this season, allowing only 63.8 points per game, the second-best in the America East, and forcing an average of 14.2 turnovers per game.

On the offensive side, both Tynes (21 points) and Filipovity (20 points) had an impressive shooting night, both above 50 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line. The team’s sophomore point guard, Jaden Clayton, played a crucial role with seven assists.
