Noah Carpenter, the future UMaine quarterback, has been named the best high school senior football player in Maine. Carpenter, who led his Leavitt Hornets to two consecutive perfect seasons in 2022 and 2023, added the prestigious James J. Fitzpatrick Trophy to his long list of accomplishments.
Carpenter is a versatile player, excelling as a quarterback, strong safety, placekicker, and punter for Leavitt. He had previously earned the titles of Varsity Maine Player of the Year and Maine Gatorade Football Player of the Year for two consecutive years. He has committed to playing for the University of Maine Black Bears in the upcoming fall.
In a ceremony held in Portland, Carpenter emerged victorious, surpassing finalists Cohen Galley (quarterback) of Oceanside, Terrell Edward (quarterback) of Bonny Eagle, and Michael McGonagle (running back) of Yarmouth to claim the 52nd Fitzpatrick Trophy.
Carpenter expressed his gratitude for the award, acknowledging the history and significance it holds. He emphasized that his remarkable season wouldn’t have been possible without the support of his teammates.
During his tenure as a starter, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Carpenter led the Hornets to an impressive 29-1 record. This included two state championship victories with an average margin of 49.5 points. His individual statistics are equally impressive, accounting for 8,015 total yards, 108 touchdowns, 242 tackles, eight interceptions, six forced fumbles, and 53 PATs.
In his senior year, Carpenter showcased his exceptional skills, completing 63 percent of his passes for 1,801 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,351 yards and 23 touchdowns on 121 carries, in addition to making 32 of 35 extra point kicks and scoring 15 2-point conversions.
UMaine’s head football coach, Jordan Stevens, praised Carpenter as a confident competitor with a strong arm, the ability to extend plays with his feet, great awareness, and a selfless attitude.
